The crisis of civilisation

In every age and in every place the times appear perilous, the crisis of civilization seems at hand, and so the same message, the same offer is repeated age after age, “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand.” The demise of the one evokes the other to arise.

The Church holds open the door to the reality of another world, one not made by human hands but fashioned by the Spirit. It holds open the door but can do no more. Those invited to the wedding feast must find their places in peace, trim their lamps, put on their own wedding garments.

The Master calls, though only His sheep know His voice, and follow Him, unconvinced of the threats cast at them from every quarter, unconcerned, almost unaware of the crisis of civilization, aware of only one reality, their Master’s voice, and the new creation that opens before them that knows nothing of night.

I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
Revelation 21:22-27 NIV

Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.
Isaiah 2:5 NIV
